It's fun being a Brownie
Apr. 24th, 2015 09:36 pmA new term has started and numbers are fairly static. We have two new girls, and have lost one - not a surprise, her friend left to join Guides and she stopped coming. Last week we had a simple craft (yes, this time it truly was) - decorating fans. They all applied themselves and with a combination of felt pens and stickers there was a wide variety of very pretty fans. And this week one of the Brownies came up to tell me she was using her fan in her school play.
Yesterday we were a leader down - Brown Owl had escaped to attend the St George's Day celebration - so we had a games evening, since that's an easy option with only two leaders present. We played our most popular games, with a variation of Port & Starboard to tell the story of St George, which was entertaining. One of the younger girls rather nervously checked with Sparkly Owl whether dragons still existed, so we reassured her they didn't because George had killed them.
We wonder at times whether the girls think of Brownies at any other time during the week, so it's always encouraging to find out when they have. One of our new Brownies is the older sister of a current Brownie. It's not unknown for younger sisters to join as they become old enough, but she's come because her sister and friends have been telling her they enjoy themselves. In addition, one of the other girls came to tell me her teacher is a Brownl Owl. And finally a third Brownie told me almost all the girls in her class are Brownies.
Worth remembering when sighing because the shrimps and prawns have got themselves muddled up. At least the lobsters knew who they were.
